Water Safety – If someone falls through the ice

American Red Cross North Carolina

Seeing someone fall through the ice can be terrifying but knowing what to do can save a life. Here are the steps to follow:

📱 Call for help from others around you and call 911

⭐ Reach or Throw, Don’t Go!

✋ Reach or throw: If you can reach them safely on solid ground, extend an object such as a hockey stick, tube, sled, scarf, or broom. Throw a rope or something that floats and tell them to hold on

🧣 Once rescued, help the person get into a warm place as quickly as possible.

❗Seek immediate medical attention after rescue.
