      Here are the latest updates from the county meeting on October 29th:

      Comfort Stations: Located at Sacred Heart, Blue Ridge Elementary, Freewill Baptist Church, OC Whitson, and Bee Log.

      Temporary Jobs: Apply online, at Freds, or at the courthouse (110 Town Square, Room 11).

      Freds Hours: Open 4-7pm on October 30th and 31st for reorganization. Normal hours resume November 1st.

      Warehouse Space: 2,800 pallets stored in Mitchell County.

      Well Test Kits: Available at the Health Department. Call 828-682-1927.

      Debris Removal: SDR has started. Leave sorted debris on state-maintained roads.

      Tax Reassessment: Awaiting state guidance.

      Venmo Donations: $22,000 received for Reconciliation House’s fuel assistance program.

      Fuel Provision: Provided to Pensacola and Big Creek.

      French Broad Electric: Crews are working hard to restore power, with significant progress in Big Creek, Little Creek, and Pensacola.

      Sheriff’s Office: Conducted over 2,300 welfare checks. 10 deaths confirmed, 3 individuals missing.

      Town of Burnsville: 95% of the municipal water system restored. Full restoration expected in the coming weeks.

      Yancey County Schools: Schools accounted for all students and staff. Various emergency uses for school facilities. Awaiting water restoration at Blue Ridge Elementary and Cane River Middle.

      Fire Department: Cleared debris, assisted in rescue efforts, and marked hazards.

      National Guard: Assisted in search and recovery, debris clearing, and distribution of supplies.

      DOT: Created temporary access roads and stabilized bridges. Installing temporary bridges in several locations.

      FEMA: Received over 5,000 applications, awarded $8.1 million. DRC next to Fred’s open daily 8am-7pm.
