Post-Hurricane Helene – Operational Plan for Yancey DSS

Due to damage to the agency building caused by flooding from Hurricane Helene, the building is closed to the public. We are continuing to provide ALL services to our community. Please see the following for helpful information:

Normal Office Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We will answer calls during these hours. We are working diligently to fully restore agency operations so that we can open to the public.

To report suspected abuse or neglect:

Call (828) 682-2470 or (828) 682-6148 during normal office hours.

Call the Sheriff’s Department at (828) 682-2124 for after-hours, weekends, or holidays.

To inquire about or apply for Food & Nutrition (Food Stamps):

Complete an application online at Epass.gov

Pick up a paper application at the office (available in the file cabinet under the covered porch).

Download an application at NC DHHS

Submit the application via the green drop box in the parking lot, mail, fax to (828) 682-6712, or email to ida.wilson@yanceycountync.gov

To inquire about or apply for Medicaid, Complete an application online at Epass.gov. Pick up a paper application at the office (it is in the file cabinet under the covered porch). Download an application at NC Medicaid. Submit the application via the green drop box in the parking lot, mail, fax to (828) 682-6712, or email to YanceyDSSMedicaid@yanceycountync.gov.
